Failure to regularly service your UV System will MOST PROBABLY cause expensive damage to your electrical parts (as well as leaving your water undertreated)! UV Dosage is from the lamp, which produces heat. Over time this hardens the seals that keep the water inside the UV Chamber.
Annually you should remove and clean the Quartz Sleeve and replace with new seals. Hardened seals eventually crack and leak water onto the lamp plug / pins. Overtime this water combined with electrical current accelerates corrosion of the metal pins, eventually causing an electrical 'short' which burns the power supply unit.
